A homeless man won record lottery win – uses the money to help others

Although he is homeless and poor, László Andraschek chooses to give most of his record profits to help others.

HUNGARY. It was in September last year that László Andraschek won one of the biggest wins of all time in Hungary. He used his last money to buy a ticket on a train platform on his way to a workshop for alcoholics. The lottery made him 630 million Hungarian forints, equivalent to 1.8 million euros, richer, writes The Guardian.

Establishes foundation

Andraschek had long been plagued with alcoholism, before he became a millionaire, another year full of debt and with the street as his home awaited. That is why after the win, he decided that most of it would go to set up a foundation to help addicts and women who have been subjected to violence by their husbands, writes British Metro.

Large donation revealed him

Although Andrascheck became a millionaire in September last year, it has not come to light until now. It was in connection with a startling donation to a shelter that the truth came out.

Paid back debts

Andrascheck also tells the Guardian that the first thing he did after the big win was to pay back debts to his family, buy cars for his three children and plan a trip to Italy.
